Donor’s Bill of Rights
As a Donor, you have the right to…
- Be informed of this organization’s mission and know how the funds of this organization are being spent;
- Know what the programs you support are accomplishing;
- Know that this organization complies with federal, state, and municipal laws;
- Restrict or designate your gifts to a particular project within this organization’s mission objectives, and be assured your gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given;
- Feel free to ask questions about finances and programs and to receive a timely, truthful, and courteous response to your inquiries;
- Visit office and program sites of this organization to talk personally with the staff;
- Give cheerfully without being pressured by the organization, and to receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition for your gifts;
- Have access to and obtain a copy of this organization’s most recent audited financial statements;
- Know that there is a responsible governing Board providing oversight to this organization’s mission, and to know the identity of those serving on said Board;
- Know that all appeals for funds are truthful and accurate;
- Be assured that information about your donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law;
- Expect that all relationships with individuals representing this organization to you shall be professional in nature;
- Be informed whether those seeking donations from you are volunteers, employees of the organization, or hired solicitors; and
- Know that your name and information will not be sold or shared with other organizations.
